While I was at Nordstrom last Thursday for MAC Semi Precious, I thought I'd check out Cinematics/Colourization (a Nordstrom-exclusive MAC collection) even though I had decided I was going to skip it. I was already there, and I was curious. Ah, but you know what happens when you start swatching products in person. ;)
I ended up getting one of the lip bags... Reel Drama.
They have 4 lip bags available. Each bag contains a Cremesheen lipstick, a Dazzleglass Creme lipgloss, and a Cremestick lip liner. The other lip bags were a skip for me because...
My lips were a bit dry at that time, and Innocence Beware seemed to accentuate every imperfection on my lips, and it was too pale for me, so I didn't get that lip bag. Nude Peach looked like concealer on my lips... uh, no, thanks! Pillowtalk just did not look good on me. It's too brown for my liking, but I did like how soft and smooth it felt on my lips compared to the other two.
I have a weakness for mauvy rose shades, and Reel Drama Cremesheen Lipstick is absolutely beautiful.
Scenestealer Dazzleglass Creme is a lovely coral with silver sparkles. It looks amazing on the lips!
Softwood Cremestick Liner is a deep rosy brown color.
Swatches of Reel Drama, Scenestealer, and Softwood...
I also purchased 4 eyeshadow duos. Kind of an impulse buy! The promo pictures really did not do these eyeshadows any justice. They looked rather dull in the photos. So, definitely check these out in person if you can.
I got Double Feature 1, which consists of a bright yellow gold with a veluxe pearl finish and a frosty royal purple.

Double Feature 3 includes a matte teal and a deep taupey brown with a satin finish. This is one of my favorites!

Double Feature 4 has a teal green with a veluxe pearl finish and a matte yellow brown. Another personal favorite!

Double Feature 5 gives you a frosty pale pinky peach and a frosty dark red-brown with green duochrome.

As for the duos that I didn't buy... Double Feauture 2 was not bad. It had good color payoff, but I had to limit myself to 4 duos because I was really there for Semi Precious. (It was #5 for me.) Double Feature 6 looked dupe-able. I'm pretty sure I have something similar in my stash. Double Feature 7 looked really nice in the pan, especially that fuchsia with blue/purple shimmer, but unfortunately both colors didn't apply very smoothly, and the color payoff was not great. I didn't get Double Feature 8 because the blue-purple shade was a bit chalky and lacked pigmentation, while the orange shade was not that special.
Overall, this is a nice collection. Reel Drama is a must-have for me because I can see myself wearing these colors everyday. The duos I chose (1, 3, 4, and 5) have good color pay off, apply smoothly, and blend easily. Plus, the colors are great!
What do you think? Are you getting anything from this collection?
The color combinations for the duos I just found so disappointing. I wouldn't use one of the shades so I couldn't see buying them. Thanks for your swatches ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for these lovely swatches. I think I might be making a trip to Norstrom to see if I can get my hands on the lip bag!
ReplyDeleteOhhh...my gosh. All the Nordstrom's are out of the Reel Drama lip bag. Lol, drats!
ReplyDelete@Phyrra: I agree. The color combinations could've been better, especially for a collection called Cinematics/Colourization.
ReplyDelete@Lady In A Top Hat: Oh, no! The MA said they only had 3 left including the one I bought that day. It really is the best one out of the 4 lip bags even though the lipstick and lipgloss don't really match. LOL
Awesome swatches! So going to order the Reel Drama lip bag on Norstrom's website!
ReplyDelete@Jacqueline: Enjoy your haul! Are you getting anything else from this collection?
ReplyDeleteGreat swatches. And I agree the combos are a bit wonky but each shade is beautiful in it's own right :) And the lippie... gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI loved all the colors! I would love to have all them if I could!
ReplyDelete@Melissa: Oh, yes! Each shade is beautiful indeed!
ReplyDelete@Thakitty: That's exactly how I feel about most collections lately. LOL
Gorgeous swatches (as always!). :-) Do you think Scenestealer has any dupe among the SN (or other indie) glosses?
ReplyDelete-Erin
@Erin: I don't think there's an exact dupe, but I'll try to look in my stash.
ReplyDeleteSuch brilliant colors :)
ReplyDeleteThere are some nice stuff, I love this frosty pale pinky peach and a frosty dark red-brown :)
ReplyDelete@Renay Shanel: They are wonderful and so fun to mix and match.
ReplyDelete@Marina: I love that one too! Especially the frosty dark red-brown. I'm a sucker for duochromes. ;)
I love the look of those lip products, Double Features 1 and 5. Your swatches make everything look amazing though. :D
ReplyDeleteAh, yes. The lip products are lovely, and so are the duos. I only wish they were quads instead. It's cheaper that way. LOL
ReplyDeletehi!! I've found you on specktra and your swatches/pictures are great!!!!!! I'm a new follower ^^
ReplyDeleteYay a fellow Specktrette! Thanks for following! (^_^)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have the Reel Drama lip bag! I've been experimenting with lip color lately - I usually wear Estee Lauder (it's OK for my sensitive skin) and I've blending lip colors.
ReplyDeleteI heard that MAC was a great brand but I'm afraid I'll just get a rash like I always do. Do you think it'll suit ultra sensitive skin? Thanks!
Hi, Anna! Do you know what you're allergic to? If not, you can always do a skin test at the store/counter before making a purchase.
